The mayor of Gelves, Isabel Herrera, presented in Madrid last Wednesday, January 20, a promotional video of Puerto Gelves. Herrera stated that Puerto Gelves, due to its special characteristics and strategic location, can contribute much to the tourist development of the river and the metropolitan area, being the second most important coastal and wintering port of its characteristics in Europe.
The intervention of the mayor of Gelves was part of the development of a new development strategy promoted by the Diputación de Sevilla and Tourism of the Province, called "Guadalquivir Territory". An initiative that tries to put in value the river as a vertebrador element and impeller of the tourist development of the zone. During the same, an agreement was signed between the Provincial Council of Seville, the Port Authority, the Confederation of Employers of Seville and the Cajasol Foundation, which seeks to materialize the commitment of all these entities to collaborate to boost resources Natural and cultural of the fluvial zone of Seville and province.
The president of the Provincial Council of Seville, Fernando Rodríguez Villalobos, explained that it is a question of "getting juice out of a river" that "not only has an impact on the Port of Seville, but also on the riverside towns." Villalobos explained that in a first phase of the work the territory of the navigable river will be analyzed, with incidence in the municipalities of Seville, San Juan de Aznalfarache, Gelves, Palomares del Río, La Puebla del Río, Coria del Río, Isla Mayor, Dos Sisters, Los Palacios and Villafranca and Lebrija; Although in later phases the scope of study will be extended to the rest of municipalities bathed by the river.
